Flamingo Christmas

Each year I try to come up with a theme for our Christmas tree and for our general house decorations. A couple years ago we had a Disney themed tree. Our tree was filled with Mickey-shaped ornaments and other Disney character ornaments. Our tree skirt was from the Disney store and our stockings had Mickey and Minnie on them (Goofy for Clayton).

Anyway, this year I have been drawn to the color pink. I want a pink holiday outfit for Ava...pink lights on the tree..pink everything. I wasn't sure how to incorporate pink into our holidays without having a major theme to use. Then....a lightbulb went off in my head. FLAMINGOS!!!! We've all seen the silly flamingo ornaments dressed up in Santa outfits or sitting by the beach with palm trees. This would be the perfect way to bring PINK into Christmas!

So I now have a flamingo Merry Christmas sign on my front door...a Season's Greetings flamingo door mat outside...flamingo stockings (except for Ava...she had to have an Elmo stocking)...flamingo hand towels for the bathrooms....flamingo towels in the kitchen...and even flamingo tree ornaments. I'm now on the hunt for pink lights to put on our tree.

You might wonder what Dale's opinion is on this "bird Christmas??" He just said "I have no opinion." Good answer honey!!!!!!

I will post pictures as soon as our tree is up. I need Dale to get it out of storage for me and he has been sick the past couple of days.

Morning Wake Up Call

It was 6:15am and I wake up with a funny feeling that something is going on in the house. I notice that our bedroom door is wide open and there is a light on in the hallway. My first thought (the mother in me) was that Clayton was sick and needed help.

My next feeling was that of being smoothered. As I tried to come out of my DEEP sleep, I realize that Clayton has wrapped himself completely around me. How did I not hear him enter our room (he has a habit of making Kramer-like entrances into any room he enters) and how did I not feel him wrap himself around me? All day I have been wondering if I would even wake up and realize if a complete stranger had jumped into bed with us. How scary is that?

Here is how our conversation went:

Me: Why are you being my human blanket? (I should have known better than to ask such a non-literal question to a 7 year-old with Asperger's Syndrome).

Clayton: Blanket??

Me: Why are you laying in my bed?

Clayton: Mommy, I want to play the Wii.

Me: No...you are not playing the Wii right now.

Clayton: I want to play my DS.

Me: OK...let me find it.

Clayton: Oh thank you Mommy!

Me: Sit in your room and be quiet for the next 30 minutes PLEASE!!!! I will be back in here to get you dressed for school.

Clayton: Mommy? I don't want to go to school today. I want to play the Wii.

Me: And I want to play on a cruise ship.

Clayton is at his dad's house tonight so there shouldn't be any early morning wakeup calls tomorrow...unless Miss Ava decides to climb out of her crib and give us a surprise.

Amanda's Sweet 16 Party

Amanda's party was beautiful. The decorations were amazing and Amanda looked gorgeous! We had a really nice time. Clayton was not real interested in the party...he said the music was too loud. He spent most of the time sitting in the lobby playing his DS. He came in now and then to check on things. Ava had a blast. She danced to the music and was very social. I think Dale and I are going to have our hands full when she is older. She loves to dance and have fun!

Such WISDOM

Yup...it's finally time that my wisdom tooth must come out. Next Wednesday is the big "E-Day." (Extraction day). Needless to say I am not looking forward to it one bit. It really started hurting last week so I figured it would be best to get the darn thing removed.

I'm still debating on whether or not to be completely sedated (that's how I get through most days) or if just a shot of Novocaine will be enough. That will be a game-time decision. On the positive side, I won't be able to eat much so hopefully I will shed a few (or 50) pounds. (Hey...I can dream, right??!!).

Saturday night our niece, Amanda, is having her Sweet 16 party. Her mom, Dale's sister Denise, has spent many many hours preparing for this event so we are all excited to celebrate with her. I was in charge of creating a video montage of Amanda from birth to current day. It was so much fun putting the video together and then seeing the final product. The video will be shown during dinner on Saturday night. I hope everyone likes it! If I can figure out a way to post the video on here, I will let you check it out.

The Lyndon Vote

I am happy to announce that all four of us (Dale, Clayton, Ava and I) voted today. Dale went this morning before work and only had to wait about 15 minutes. I went with Clayton and Ava a little later and the wait was about 5 minutes. It was a much easier wait than a lot of people went through during the 2 week early voting period. Some lines here in South Florida were 6 hours!!

Tonight we will be glued to the TV to see the results. It's incredible to be a part of such an important election. History will be made tonight!

(and just in case you were wondering, yes Clayton and Ava's votes will count. We live in Broward county!!! Everybody and anybody can vote!!! Remember 2004 with the hanging chads and the judges who went cross-eyed while recounting the ballots?? That was us!!!!!!!! This year they won't be looking at the hanging chads...they will be trying to read the crayon marks that Ava and Clayton used to mark their ballots!)

Ava's first ear infection

My precious little girl has been a picture of health for almost her entire 16 months of life. We have been very blessed by this and thank God everyday for her great health.

Few days ago, she developed a junkie cough and a really attractive runny nose. (I can add the title of "Nose Wipper" to my list of duties I guess). I took her to the doctor yesterday and found out that she has a nasty double ear infection. The doctor's exact words were "she is falling apart on you before your eyes!" Uh...OK! I didn't know that ear infections were considered "falling apart." So she is on antibiotics for that and lucky for us, she loves her medicine!!!

For the most part, she is handling being sick pretty well. She was somewhat grumpy last night and was testing Dale and I every chance she got. First she tipped over the fan in our room and then turned the computer off while I was picking the fan back up. Needless to say I lost the work I was doing on the computer.

Hopefully she gets better soon. I hate having sick kids....feel so helpless.

"Well here goes nothing!!"

So since I follow everything that my wonderful friend Sara does, I decided to give this blogging trend a try! It is free and with this economy these days, I can actually afford it!!

The Lyndon's consist of Dale (the loving, kind, generous husband), Kelli (me), Clayton (aka The Duke, Bubbs) and the newest addition, Ava (a.k.a. Little Crazy, Honey, Little Bit, Diva, Little Nut, AAA (that's B-Pa's name for her...All Attitude Ava), Piggy). From the outside we appear to be like any other family. But this blog will expose you to what goes on inside the Lyndon Nut House.

Enjoy!!!
